The Nakuru County Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services has emerged among the top performers at the ongoing Nakuru National Agricultural Show after scooping two major awards for excellence in exhibition.

The department was awarded Position One in the Best County Stand category and Position One in the Best County Department Stand category, underscoring its commitment to promoting innovation, modern farming technologies and sustainable agricultural development.

Chief Officer for Agriculture Eng. Margaret Kinyanjui and Chief Officer for Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services Dr. Michael Cheruiyot toured the department’s exhibition stands during the show and congratulated staff for the outstanding achievement.

The two county officials praised the team for their professionalism, creativity and dedication in showcasing the county’s agricultural transformation agenda to farmers, investors and other stakeholders attending the five-day exhibition.

They noted that the awards reflect the department’s continued efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture, value addition, food security, improved livestock production, fisheries development and veterinary services across Nakuru County.

Speaking during the tour, the Chief Officers said the recognition demonstrates the county government’s commitment to empowering farmers through innovation, technology adoption and extension services that enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods.

They further encouraged officers to sustain the momentum by using platforms such as the Agricultural Show to engage directly with farmers, share practical knowledge and create awareness about the county government’s programmes aimed at transforming the agricultural sector.

The department’s exhibition stand has attracted hundreds of visitors seeking information on modern farming techniques, climate-smart agriculture, livestock management, fisheries, veterinary services and value addition technologies. Farmers are also receiving advisory services from agricultural experts on best farming practices to improve production and resilience against climate change.

The awards come as the 2026 Nakuru National Agricultural Show continues under the theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

The five-day event has brought together more than 100 exhibitors from the agriculture, manufacturing, education, banking and agribusiness sectors to showcase innovations that are shaping the future of agriculture in Kenya.

The exhibition runs until July 5, 2026, and is expected to attract thousands of farmers, students, investors and members of the public from Nakuru County and across the country.
