SASRA invites applications from external auditors for 2027 SACCO audit listing

, SASRA Chief Executive Officer David Sandagi

The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has invited qualified external auditors and audit firms to apply for listing as approved auditors for regulated Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) for the financial year ending December 31, 2027.

In a public notice, the regulator said applications should be submitted online through the SASRA External Auditor Registration Portal in accordance with Section 45(b) of the Sacco Societies Act, Cap 490B, Laws of Kenya, and Guidance Note Ref. No. SASRA/GG/2/2022.

Auditors and audit firms can submit their applications through the portal at https://auditors.sasra.go.ke/.

“The portal provides for digital submissions, real-time validation and faster processing of applications,” the notice states.

SASRA said the deadline for submitting applications is November 30, 2026, with the final list of approved external auditors expected to be published by January 15, 2027.

The authority noted that external auditors play a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability and public confidence within regulated SACCOs.

By independently examining financial statements, accounting records and supporting documents, auditors provide reasonable assurance that a SACCO’s financial statements are free from material misstatements and present a true and fair view of its financial position.

Under the regulatory framework, every regulated SACCO is required to appoint an external auditor for each financial year. The auditor must be professionally qualified, licensed by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), included in SASRA’s list of approved auditors, approved by members during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and meet the prescribed independence and competence requirements.

SASRA further noted that any person whose relationship with a SACCO may compromise their independence is not eligible for appointment as an external auditor.
