Tichina Rolanda Arnold was born on June 28, 1969, in Queens, New York City. She was raised in Newark, New Jersey, alongside five siblings.
Her mother, Diane, worked for the sanitation department and was also a gospel singer and vocal coach. Her father was a singer who later became a chess master and worked as a police officer.
Arnold developed an interest in performing at an early age. She began singing in church when she was four years old and was performing professionally by the time she was eight.
She eventually attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York, where she continued developing her skills in acting and music.
Acting Career
Arnold’s professional acting career began when she was a child. In 1974, she appeared in an episode of The Big Blue Marble. She subsequently landed appearances on children’s television programs including Kids Are People Too, Unicorn Tales and Captain Kangaroo.
