Marcia Rachel Kleks was born on August 31, 1953, in Alameda, California. Raised in a Jewish household, she grew up with her parents, Rozlyn and Abraham Kleks, along with her younger brother. Because of her father’s work as a chemist for the Food and Drug Administration, the family moved frequently, living in several states including California, Michigan, New York, and Maryland.
Clark attended Susan E. Wagner High School in Staten Island, New York, before enrolling at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a degree in political science in 1976.
