Washington, D.C., USA – The Kenya National Police DT Sacco National Chairman David Sohelo Mategwa has been crowned the United State of America.
Mategwa received the inaugural African-American Credit Union Coalition Chairman’s Award at the Hall of Fame Alumni Luncheon in Washington, D.C., USA.
What David Mategwa’s new award means
The distinguished award recognized Mategwa’s exceptional leadership, strategic influence, and transformative contribution to the global credit union movement.
It also reflected the Coalition Chairman’s highest level of recognition, reserved for leaders whose work advances global credibility, creates lasting legacy impact, and strengthens cross-continental collaboration.
What Kenya Police Sacco said
Back home, the Kenya National Police DT Sacco welcomed the award, congratulating Mr Mategwa for the remarkablke achievements.
“Congratulations to our National Chairman, David Sohelo Mategwa, OGW, HSC, DSA I-CUDE, on receiving the inaugural African-American Credit Union Coalition Chairman’s Award at the Hall of Fame Alumni Luncheon in Washington, D.C., USA.
“We celebrate this remarkable achievement and the continued elevation of the cooperative movement on the global stage,” read the Sacco statement in part.
The announcement came during the a high-level governance and institutional benchmarking engagement at SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union in California, USA.
Mategwa was among the delegation from Africa, led by Principle Secreatary (PS) in the State Department for Co-operatives Patrick Kilemi.
David Mategwa’s award came five months after Mategwa was elected the Vice Chairman of the African Confederation Co-operative Savings and Credit Association (ACCOSCA) in October 2025.
Mr Mategwa’s leadership has been significant in the cooperative movement in Kenya and across Africa.
