The Kenya Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative (KETSA) Alternative Investment Fund has officially been launched in a move aimed at expanding regulated investment opportunities within Kenya’s cooperative sector.
The fund was unveiled on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with government officials describing it as a major milestone in strengthening transparency, governance and professional investment management for Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs).
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Cooperatives Patrick Kilemi said the launch marks a significant step towards enhancing safe and sustainable investment opportunities for cooperative members.
“The launch is a landmark step in strengthening regulated, transparent and professionally managed investment opportunities within the cooperative sector. This initiative, anchored under a Capital Markets Authority (CMA)-regulated framework, reflects our shared commitment to safeguarding members’ savings, deepening investor confidence and advancing innovation in SACCO investments,” Kilemi said.
He noted that the fund demonstrates effective collaboration between regulators and the cooperative movement in building a resilient and future-ready financial ecosystem.
“It is a strong example of effective collaboration between regulators and the cooperative movement in building a resilient and future-ready financial ecosystem. As Government, we remain steadfast in supporting reforms that enhance governance, promote financial inclusion and secure sustainable prosperity for cooperative members across the country,” he added.
The Alternative Investment Fund is expected to provide SACCOs and their members with professionally managed investment products while promoting greater accountability and regulatory compliance within the sector.
The Kenya Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) Association (KETSA), which was founded in 2007 and officially registered in 2011, serves as the umbrella body representing teacher-based SACCOs across Kenya.
The association acts as a central hub for collaboration, advocacy and capacity building, representing the interests of teacher SACCOs before government agencies and policymakers while championing favourable tax policies, sound regulation and sustainable growth within the cooperative movement.
