Leadership Changes at KUSCCO: David Langat assumes role as national chairman

David Langat has taken the helm as the new National Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO), succeeding George Maguti.
Langat assumed his role on Monday.
The reshuffling of top positions within KUSCCO was prompted by the government’s demand to investigate the alleged involvement of the cooperative in illegal deposit-taking activities.
Co-operative and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui issued a directive three months ago instructing the Sacco Societies Authority (SASRA) to conduct a thorough inspection of KUSCCO, including its books, accounts, and records, under current legislation governing cooperative societies.
Alongside George Maguti’s departure, the managing director, George Ototo, also stepped down.
David Langat on January 15 expressed appreciation for the dedicated service and contributions of the outgoing leaders, Maguti and Ototo.
“This is to inform you of important changes in leadership at KUSCCO Limited. We announce the departure of national chairman George Magutu and Group managing director George Ototo. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for their dedicated service and contributions to the growth and success of the Union during their tenure,” Langat stated.
Langat, who previously held the position of the board vice chairman, emphasized the importance of continuity and stability during this transitional period.
“Further, the board of directors appointed Arnold Munene into the role of acting Group managing director with effect from January 15, 2024.”
KUSCCO, which has been operational for over 50 years, advocates for an enabling legislative and policy environment to support the growth of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (Saccos) across the nation.
