Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are detailed, written instructions that outline the steps necessary to complete specific tasks or processes within a business.

They serve as a guide for employees to ensure consistency, efficiency and quality in operations. SOPs are essential for businesses of all sizes as they provide a structured approach to managing tasks and maintaining standards.

The primary purpose of SOPs is to ensure that all employees follow the same procedures, regardless of who performs the task. This reduces the risk of errors and ensures that tasks are completed in a consistent manner. For example, in a customer service department, an SOP might outline the steps for handling complaints, ensuring that every customer receives the same level of service.
