Early Life
Chamillionaire was born Hakeem Seriki on November 28, 1979, in Washington, D.C.. When he was three years old, his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he was raised.
He attended Jersey Village High School, where he developed an interest in rap music. Chamillionaire also has a younger brother, Rasaq Seriki, who later became a rapper as well.
His stage name “Chamillionaire” combines the words chameleon and millionaire, reflecting his adaptable style and ambitions.
Music Career
Chamillionaire began gaining recognition in Houston’s hip-hop scene through mixtapes and collaborations with rapper Paul Wall. The two formed the rap group The Color Changin’ Click and released the album Get Ya Mind Correct in 2002, which sold more than 150,000 copies independently.
The group’s success helped them become regular performers in the Houston rap scene and even led to appearances at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival.
Chamillionaire achieved mainstream success with his debut studio album The Sound of Revenge, released in 2005 through Universal Records and his own label Chamillitary Entertainment. The album debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum.
