Gary Stephen Anderson was born on August 5, 1947, in Melbourne, Australia. He grew up in the working-class suburb of Coburg.
His mother had immigrated to Australia from Mauritius while pregnant with him. Anderson later spoke about the difficulties of his childhood, including a troubled relationship with his father and violence within the home.
He also experienced bullying at school and struggled with his small stature. He eventually stood at around 5 feet 1 inch tall.
Music became an important outlet for Anderson during his youth. His temperament earned him the nickname “Angry Ant,” which eventually developed into the stage name Angry Anderson.
Although he was expected to pursue a trade, Anderson was drawn to reading, writing and music. By the early 1970s, he had begun performing professionally and was determined to establish himself as a singer.
Early Music Career
Anderson’s first significant band was Peace, Power and Purity, which he joined in the early 1970s.

Anderson and Michael married in 1986 and had four children together, including one daughter and three sons. The couple later separated.

A friend of Liam’s was later convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years in prison.
