Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Wycliffe Oparanya has reappointed Freda Moraa Nyakundi and Methuselah Rono as members of the Board of Directors of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
In a Gazette Notice dated June 26, 2026, Oparanya said the two board members will each serve another three-year term.
Moraa was first appointed to the SASRA Board on June 23, 2023.
She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.
Before joining the board, Moraa served as the Legal Adviser in the Office of the Governor of Nyamira County.
She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has served as a judicial officer in various capacities across the country.
According to SASRA, Moraa brings more than 23 years of experience in law, justice administration and legal practice in both the public and private sectors, expertise expected to strengthen the Authority’s regulatory mandate.
She is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries (ICPSK) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Rono was first appointed to the SASRA Board on June 16, 2023.
He holds a Master of Personnel Management in Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance and Banking from Poona University in India.
He also holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Central England in the United Kingdom and is currently pursuing a PhD in Graduate Entrepreneurship at the University of Birmingham.
In addition, Rono holds a Certificate in Trusteeship from Humber University in Canada and a Certificate in Corporate Governance from the Kenya Centre for Corporate Governance.
Prior to joining the board, he served as an adjunct lecturer in the Faculty of Commerce at Egerton University. He has also served as Chairperson of the Local Committee at the Kenya Revenue Authority between 2013 and 2015, a Non-Executive Director at Consolidated Bank of Kenya, Chairperson of the bank’s Staff and Risk Committee, Managing Trustee of the Consolidated Bank Pension Scheme, and an international business consultant and trainer with Platinum Consultants in Birmingham.
SASRA said Rono brings extensive experience in human resource management, finance, banking, corporate governance and service delivery, skills expected to enhance the Authority’s regulatory functions.
He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and a full member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Other members of the SASRA Board are George Maina Mwangi, Cynthia J. Lekolool, David Obonyo, David Sandagi and Roselyne Ragama, while former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma serves as the board chairperson.
