Principal Secretary for the State Department for Cooperatives Patrick Kilemi has held talks with the leadership of the SACCO Information Technology Professionals Association (SITPA) and Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) Chief Executive Officer Arnold Munene as preparations gather pace for the SACCO ICT Summit 2026 scheduled for August.
The meeting focused on plans for the summit, which is expected to bring together SACCO chief executive officers, chief information officers, technology professionals, regulators and other industry stakeholders to discuss emerging trends in digital transformation, cybersecurity, data protection and innovation within the cooperative sector.
Kilemi said the discussions underscored the growing importance of technology in strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery across SACCOs.
“Our engagement underscored the importance of leveraging technology to strengthen governance, enhance operational efficiency, safeguard member data, and improve service delivery across SACCOs. We also discussed strategic partnerships and stakeholder collaboration to ensure the success of the Summit and advance the digital agenda of Kenya’s cooperative movement,” Kilemi said.

The PS noted that the State Department for Cooperatives remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote innovation, resilience and sustainable growth within the SACCO subsector as the country positions cooperatives to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
The summit is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore practical solutions to the opportunities and challenges presented by rapid technological advancements in the financial sector.
KUSCCO, the national advocacy body for SACCOs, said it is spearheading partnerships aimed at helping cooperative societies keep pace with technological change and innovation in the financial services industry.
“KUSCCO is championing a technology-ready SACCO sector capable of delivering secure and affordable financial services to millions of Kenyans who depend on SACCOs every day,” the organization said in a statement.
