Scott Pelley was born on July 28, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas, and raised in Lubbock. He attended Coronado High School and got his start in journalism at just 15 years old, working as a copyboy for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. After graduating, he enrolled at Texas Tech University, though he did not complete his degree.
