WEVARSITY SACCO continues to scale heights, launches office plaza

WEVARSITY Savings and Credit Co-operative Society has maintained steady growth in its operations and mandate to empower its members financially.

As the cooperative principle dictates, the SACCO thrives at creating value for its members’ funds in the most efficient and effective manner. The society upgraded its service delivery mechanisms to meet the growing member demands.

In one of its spirited milestones, the Sacco launched an office plaza that will house most of its activities and operations in Kakamega.

Speaking during the Special General Meeting (SGM) held in September 2022, the Sacco board of directors’ chairman David Anekeya said the plaza is ready for occupancy, applauding members for their support and loyalty.

“The upward growth trajectory Wevarsity SACCO continues to record has been achieved through your moral and physical support. The completion of phase 1 of the SACCO plaza has paved way for occupancy,” said Anekeya.

The SACCO plaza is located at Lurambi, Kakamega town and the society intends to utilise its return creating value for members’ savings.

During the event, WEVARSITY SACCO approved its strategic plan 2023-2027, which seeks to grow its service efficiency and convenience. The strategy defines the society’s intentions to empower members by offering affordable credit, savings and investment facilities.

WEVARSITY SACCO embraces information communication technology (ICT) and emerging trends to offer efficient and convenient service delivery to its members. In its alternative banking channels, the society leverages mobile and internet banking.

Members can access services via USSD code *879# or by visiting the app. These services include; Salary Advance and Super Salary Advance applications, Account status and balance enquiries, Mini statements, Password change, SMS alerts, Utility bill payments, Deposits and withdrawals and Purchase of airtime.

Since it started operating under the Sacco Society Regulatory Authority (SASRA), the Sacco offers Front Office Service Activities (FOSA), including Personal/Ordinary Savings Accounts, Fixed deposit accounts, and Joint Savings Accounts, among others.

The Back Office Savings Activities (BOSA) include Development loans, Pikipiki loans, College/School fees, emergency loans, Maliza mradi loans, normal loans and among others.

Since its inception in 2003, the Sacco endeavoured to change the living standards of its members and the community around it. The Sacco draws its membership from all corners of the economy, including government employees, employees of private institutions, the business community, farmers, chamas, individuals among others.

The society embodies core values including Integrity, Efficiency and Effectiveness, Professionalism, Impartiality, Innovation and Creativity and Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) in its operations.

WEVARSITY SACCO promotes thrift in compliance with the Co-operative Principles by practising good Governance and providing competitive financial products and services to members coupled with accurate and timely information for prudent Management.

Such information is relayed through activities such as education to members, the management staff and the board of directors. Through these activities, members are equipped with the best savings and investment knowledge as the board and management team acquire the best governance and service skills.
